A top television presenter today launched a major campaign to encourage the relocation of top Government jobs from London to Bradford.

Kirstie Allsop, star of Channel Four show Location, Location, Location and its spin-off Relocation, Relocation, was enjoying a whistle-stop tour of the district's residential property to show just what Bradford has to offer civil servants who could make the move north.

She was taking part in filming for a new DVD being produced by Bradford Council's regeneration and housing department to promote the district as the ideal place to relocate top jobs.

The finished film will be targeted at civil servants relocating from the capital.

Travelling in an Audi TT sports car provided by Bradford Audi, she was visiting a range of housing from city centre loft apartments to luxurious homes in fashionable Ilkley.

It will be designed to appeal to both junior ranking civil servants currently unable to afford to buy their own homes in London and top executives who fancy a place in the country.

And there are also plans for a major event in London next year to push home the message.

The campaign follows a major report by Sir Michael Lyons, commissioned by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, which has said 20,000 civil service jobs should move from London to the regions.

Bradford's case has been boosted by a review by property specialists King Sturge which concluded the city was one of the leading potential locations for public sector relocation.

The Council campaign is being backed by Bradford Centre Regeneration and redevelopment agency Yorkshire Forward. Councillor Simon Cooke, Bradford Council's executive member for regeneration, said he was delighted Kirstie was supporting the district's case.

"The filming is just one part of a strong campaign we will be rolling out to bring these Government jobs and services to the district," he said. "We are already talking to several Government agencies and outlining the opportunities that the area offers including a competitively priced housing market and buildings for Government departments. Bradford will also be able to offer a diverse workforce to relocated services looking to recruit."

Martin van Zeller, regeneration policy co-ordinator for the Council, said: "It is a really exciting opportunity to have what we already know about Bradford endorsed by someone with a national television profile."
