Jamie Longley gave the boys from Daisy Hill a lesson in the art of forward play on Saturday with a display of pace, deft touches and vision.

The visitors had no answer to the speedy front man who, along with Dale Hoyle, ran them ragged.

Silsden, oozing confidence after their midweek victory over Holker were soon creating chances and Hoyle was unlucky to see his effort come back off the woodwork in the twelth minute. The opening goal was not long in coming.

The ball was crossed from the left and Longley headed it back to Peter Hanson who hit a superb volley beyond Baxter.

Three minutes later Longley out sprinted the defence on the right, cut in and crossed to Gill. The midfielder's shot was deflected into the corner of the net leaving the keeper stranded. Hoyle was unlucky not to make it three after twenty minutes when his header went inches wide.

The visitors had made little impact on the game with Gill and Hanson dominating the midfield and when Archer did make a break Hedges easily dispossessed him. Silsden sat back for a while and the strikers became isolated thus giving the Lancastrians more of the ball, McGill was proving a handful down the left and both Saxon and Tongue both had shots blocked. Rosser headed one more effort clear before the Cobbydalers tightened their grip on the game.

Hoyle was denied at the near post as he broke through on the left and then again beat the keeper only to see a header, from a Longley cross, come back off the post. However the striker is in such a rich vein of form a goal was not long in arriving. Hedges broke up play in midfield before feeding Longley down the right. Longley appeared to be tightly marked against the touchline but some tricky footwork mesmerised the defence and he raced to the by-line and crossed for Hoyle to make it three. Hoyle then burst down the left and crossed to the far post but for once Gill's touch let him down.

Longley and Hedges both had long-range efforts charged down as Silsden finished the half in total command.

The Cobbydalers made it four early in the second half in controversial circumstances, the linesman raised his flag for offside but play went on and as the flag was lowered Rhodes beat the keeper to the ball and crossed for Hoyle to tap in. Daisy Hill were aggrieved when, after consulting his assistant, the referee stood by his decision. Unfortunately Caine lost his cool, first with Hedges and then with the official, and was dismissed in acrimonious circumstances.

The fracas has taken place in front of the Silsden dugout from where an incensed Akroyd went on to the field.

Although there was no contact with anyone Akroyd was summarily sent off without ever having been involved in play!

It took a while for the game to settle down, Longley made it five when he beat the offside trap and rounded the keeper.

The Daisy Hill full back was then booked for not taking a free kick in the right place and even the Silsden fans were bemused at this decision.

As the visitors faded only Baxter stood in the way of an even heavier defeat. Holden's free kick came to nought and Longley had a shot blocked, Rosser and Longley then combined to create another opening, and the keeper did well to reach Gill's chip. Only a dynamic run by Ashworth relieved the pressure on a beleaguered defence.

Substitute Lund looked to have scored when he headed Holden's cross over the keeper but the ball was cleared off the line.

Hanson and Gill both had volleys saved but the latter should have made it six when he had only the keeper to beat after a surging run through the defence. Hanson won the ball in a tackle and fed Longley but again the keeper was able to smother his shot. Lund was determined to get on the score sheet but after the ball had been fed from Nettleton to Rosser and on to Reed and then Holden the makeshift striker was again denied at the near post.

Silsden, having come to terms with their promotion are settling into a compact and formidable unit.

Three more home games follow, Saturday versus New Mills, k.o.3.00. On Wednesday Oct. 30th Castleton Gabriel's are the visitors (7.45pm) before the Cobbydalers entertain Tadcaster Albion in the F.A Vase.
