Keighley Tennis Club is gearing up to become a major force on the local sporting scene.

After a superb season at junior and senior level, the club is already planning to make 2005 even better.

"We are looking for new players including beginners, players who are loking to improve their game and experienced club players," said club development officer Carl Mawson.

During this year the club's Under-18 team won the Bradford Parks League and the Under-15s lost in a close final.

The club's senior team also won promotion to Division Two of the Wharfedale League.

"Despite this success I see it as just the beginning of a process to put Keighley firmly on the tennis map.

"We aim to forge links with local businesses, the local authority and schools to help develop the game," Mr Mawson said.

The club is drawing up big plans for the future.

"Ideally we would like to see a facility where people can play tennis throughout the year available to players of all levels.

"Tennis is a great game, it helps keep you fit and healthy and builds friendships which last a lifetime," he said.
