Liversedge believe they have the youngest scorer in the FA Cup for over a century.

The club are checking out the possibility and will make sure the youngster receives the credit if the claim is right.

"When Lee McEwan came off the bench to score the fourth goal in the 4-1 win at Newcastle Blue Star I was delighted for the lad but thought nothing more about it," said manager Eugene Lacy.

"A week or so later I read in a non-league publication that a kid from down south had become the youngest scorer in the FA Cup for a lot of years and that he was just 16 and 88 days when he did it.

"I thought they've got that wrong because Lee had his birthday on the Wednesday before the Blue Star game. He was 16 years three days when he scored so I decided to have a look on the FA web-site

and see what the official line was.

"There was no mention of this season's youngest scorer but there was a lad back in the 1890s who was named as the youngest.

"If Lee is not the youngest in history he is certainly younger than both of the ones mentioned.

"We are not getting carried away just yet because we haven't dug deep enough to have uncovered all the facts. I have sent an e-mail to the editor of the publication I saw it in and we will be contacting the FA."

Lacy says McEwan is a developing talent and he expects good things of him.

The player himself is a very confident young man, to the point of audacious.

"He had the guts to grab me in training the other day and ask me where he stood. I told him he is in my plans and is well ahead for his age but he still has to be patient."
