Chris Brandon could have been playing for City in Saturday's derby instead of against them.

Midfielder Brandon has been an instant hit with Huddersfield since joining them in the summer.

But ahead of the Galpharm showdown, the 27-year-old revealed that he came close to lining up for his home-town club.

Brandon, who comes from Under-cliffe, said: "Bradford wanted to sign me when Nicky Law was in charge. He spoke to my agent while I was still at Chesterfield but he wasn't in a position to be able to bring anyone in at the time because of the finances.

"It would have been a great move for me but it didn't work out. As a player, it is a bit special to join your home-town club but you never know what might happen.

"But I'm enjoying myself at Huddersfield, who are a great side to play for, and everything is going in the right direction."

Brandon made his name locally with Park Avenue before signing pro at Torquay.

He said: "That time at Avenue really helped me and toughened up my game. The physical side was very different with a lot of former pros and some of the pitches were awful but it made me into a better player. I'll always be grateful for Avenue."

Brandon was complaining of a tight hamstring after Huddersfield's defeat at Oldham. He had a scan yesterday but is hopeful of playing in a game he does not want to miss.

"It's going to be extra special for me and I can't wait," he added. "I've played against them once before in a pre-season friendly at Chesterfield but this is totally different.

"Being a Bradford lad I grew up as a City fan and always look out for their results. But I've got a job to do on Saturday even if it will mean that I upset my family and friends.

"They are all City supporters and they'll all be at the game. I think the result they want is a 2-1 away win with me scoring the consolation!"

City will be backed by 3,800 fans - their biggest away following for five years. The last tickets were snapped up yesterday afternoon and the away end is now officially sold-out.
