Wyke A 44, Keighley Town A 30 - Work commitments meant that Town travelled to Wyke with just 12 men.

Town started the game with a bang after Kazim Ahmed opened the scoring when he drove over to touch down. The score woke up the home side and they drew level within minutes but Town kept working hard and their efforts paid off when Jason Benn crashed over.

Again Wyke hit back but Town refused to lie down with Spencer, Foster and Melvin driving deep into the opposition half from a quick play. Hudson fed Ahmed and after handing off two players he off-loaded to Hardcastle who touched down to score in only his second game.

They maintained the pressure and Baker drew the defence to allow Benn to burst through the defensive line and touchdown.

Hard tackling from Gall, Butterfield and Parker was solid in defence and Parker broke out only to be brought down in Wyke's 20-metre zone. Baker collected the ball and stepped through the Wyke players to score his first of the season.

Wyke hit back with two tries before the break and the 12-man Town side started to run out of steam in the second period. Injuries took a further toll allowing Wyke to race into the lead.

Baker scored again as Jamie Donnelly spurred on the Keighley side and they went close on several occasions. Wyke extended their lead but every Keighley player gave total commitment only to see time run out.

Tomorrow (Saturday) they are at home to Hoyland Vikings, ko 2pm.

Cowling Harlequin 6

West Craven 16

Harlequin battled to the death in their 'derby' clash with the West Craven side which produced a superb game.

The first 30 minutes saw no real advantage to either team as the defences tested each but first blood went to Cowling when Lee Cutler broke through to score near the posts. Ali Feather slotted the goal.

With a minute to go to half time the West Craven side scored a try goaled by Aden Colvin to put the scores level at the break.

The second half looked like a repeat of the first with both sides absorbing some good attacking rugby. Cowling's nerve broke first though as Craven's Danny King scored but Colvin failed to goal. It took a further 20 minutes for Craven to repeat the performance and it was Chris Watson who scored the try and Colvin added the goal on the final whistle to give them a flattering final score line.

Cowling's man of the match was Andy Higgins and tomorrow (Saturday) the Quins travel to face Vic Rangers.
