Cavendish Hotel 6 George Cullingworth 2 - GEORGE's manager had to call up veteran players, with a combined age of over 80, as an injury crisis took its toll at the club.
While Cavendish deserved their win the scoreline flattered them.
In the first period Cavendish took a three goal lead before Phil Poole pulled one back.
The Cullingworth side could have gone into the break on level terms with shots inches wide of the target and the Cavendish keeper pulled off a brilliant save.
Shortley after the re-start Cavendish went further ahead and midway through the half George were awarded a penalty which was converted by Lee Cottier, and at 4-2 there was still plenty for the Cullingworth team to play for.
But a crucial mistake in the George defence, when he should have put the ball into touch he attempted to beat the Cavendish attacker who won the contest and was gifted an easy cahnce to score.
Cavendish scored again before the final whistle, but the George side refused to give in.
Chris Welch was George's man of the match and there was praise from both teams for referee G Butterworth.
