Brad Meyers is enjoying life with his new team-mates - even though he can't understand what they are saying half the time.

The softly-spoken second-rower admits he is yet to fully overcome the language barrier posed by the strong Yorkshire accents of his new comrades.

"I still sit there and they'll be yelling something across the room and I can't understand a word they are saying," said Meyers.

"I have to get someone to translate for me. They tell me that it comes to you after a while. We'll just have to wait and see."

Meyers has impressed in training here in Portugal and coach Brian Noble confirmed he would almost certainly start the season alongside new skipper Jamie Peacock in the second row.

The former Queensland and Australia representative has a similar build to that of the 6ft 5in Peacock and also looks to have a similar no-nonsense approach, with Noble already drawing comparisons to former Bull Daniel Gartner.

As well as the language barrier, Meyers admits to being surprised by the unique, dug-out nature of Odsal Stadium.

"When we first hopped up, me and my girlfriend Anitia were sitting outside and she kept asking where the stadium was because we couldn't see it.

"Then I realised it was down in the ground. But it looks like a good venue and I'm looking forward to playing there.

"I can't wait to play in front of a big crowd. The boys have been telling me it's a big day when they play Leeds there. It is something to look forward to.

"They are a great bunch of blokes here and I've been enjoying my week so far. I'm just looking forward to the rest of the year playing with these guys."

The intensity of the training this week has been a shock to the system for Meyers, who hasn't played since being injured in the latter stages of the NRL season.

Noble is unlikely to blood him against Dewsbury on Sunday, instead holding him back for a home debut in the friendly against Huddersfield.

And that's just fine with Meyers.

"The legs are starting to feel a bit weary so I'll be looking forward to a few days off. It will be good to get a taste of it and it is something I am looking forward to but at this stage it is just about getting a bit fitter."
