Ben Rhydding lls 5

Sheffield Uni Bankers 2

Ben Rhydding Seconds extended their winning run to five games with this 5-2 victory over Sheffield University Bankers on Saturday.

Ben Rhydding edged the first- half under terrible weather conditions, leading at half-time by 2-1 with goals coming from a weaving run and accurate finish from Graham Bevington and a drag flick from Lars Hirschfield.

The Sheffield goal came from some sloppy defending at the back to edge them back in the game.

The second-half started slowly for both sides with the majority of the play being a midfield battle.

Ben Rhydding made some tactical substitutions to make their game more offensive and this resulted in creating three well worked goals.

The first of these was from a well crafted team goal finished by Paul Stather.

The other two goals were orchestrated by good skill from Ian Cussins resulting in goals from himself and Chris Borrett.

A hat-trick from C Smith was not enough for Ben Rhydding men's first team to fend off visitors Alderley Edge who triumphed 4-3.

Badgers 1

LA Metros 1

LA Metros were the only team to beat the Badgers in the first half of the season, so the Badgers were determined to ensure that they were not to lose again.

The Badgers welcomed back Cameron Borrett, who combined well with John and Connor Dowley in building the early attacks down the right side.

The Badgers opened the scoring through Peter Grummitt as he finished off an excellent move involving Nixon, Roughton and Drakard.

The LA Metros soon equalised from a well executed short corner routine. The game continued in an even fashion, both sides creating chances and fine 'keeping by Garrity kept the Badgers level.

With the strong wind behind them in the second-half, the Badgers looked to push forward. But it was the defence that had to stand firm, and the skipper, Robert Jackson, earned Man-of-the-Match as he led by example and made some important tackles.

Having ridden their luck as LA Metros twice hit the post, the Badgers finished the stronger, James Jordan finding acres of space on the left wing and he very nearly combined with Grummitt to grab a late goal.
