American writer Terence Kingsley-Smith's new novel follows the life of the talented but flawed Branwell Bront and his love for the mistress of Thorp Green.
Joan Fontaine, who played Jane Eyre on the big screen, has written the foreword for the book, which is based on real-life events.
Terence, from Carmel, California, said that after reading the Bront sisters' novels he was haunted by the family until he wrote about them.
Terence, who has written the book in the form of Branwell's fictional diary, said that by writing this novel he could aim to "seek his identity".
He said he did not believe the theory put forward recently by one Bront scholar that Branwell wrote his sister Emily's novel Jane Eyre.
"He didn't have the discipline," said Terence.
Terence paid a visit to Haworth during a publicity tour of Yorkshire to promote the book.
"Thorp Green -- A Tale of the Bronts" is published by The Book Guild and is available from bookshops.
