Patients are being urged to have their say on plans to move their GPs to a new health centre in Bradford.

More than 7,000 patients of Dr Keshaw Mall at Park Road Medical Centre and Drs Ghulam and Ishtiaq Gilkar at Manchester Road Medical Centre, both in Bradford, will move to a new community health and social care centre in Little Horton Lane under proposals by Bradford City Teaching Primary Care Trust (tPCT).

A tPCT spokesman said: "We are trying to improve doctors' premises. We will be able to offer more services. Patients from these surgeries will not move till the new premises are ready."

The new three-storey centre will be built on the site of the former Old House at Home pub in Little Horton Lane. It will include consultation rooms, a minor-surgery room, health education and some teaching rooms. Services will include two GP practices, district nursing, health visiting, midwifery and a new child-health clinic.

Patients and other interested parties can have their say at two public meetings on Thursday at 2pm and 6pm at Horton Park Medical Centre in Horton Park Avenue where they can quiz the tPCT and doctors about the plans.

Little Horton councillor and Bradford Council Labour group leader Ian Greenwood is urging people to take part.

Mr Greenwood said: "On the face of it, it looks as if this will be an extremely sensible development. The only issue is about the location. I would urge anyone, whether they are in favour of the move or have concerns, to go to the consultation meetings."

If the plans go ahead work will start soon, with staff and patients moving next year. The consultation ends on February 1 and all comments received will be considered at a public board meeting of Bradford City tPCT, on Tues-day, February 15, at Joseph Bren-nan House in Sunbridge Road.

Anyone who cannot attend the meetings can put their views in writing to: Lynnette Throp, chief executive, Bradford City tPCT, FREEPOST, NEA 16160, Bradford BD1 1BR or e-mail: citypct@bradford.nhs.uk.
