BARNOLDSWICK'S Arran Brindle (pictured below) has been selected for the England Ladies' world cup squad to play in South Africa in March.

She is among the 14-strong line-up who will arrive in South Africa on Tuesday, March 8 ahead of their first match against Australia on March 22.

It will be the second World Cup for Brindle - who recently changed her name from Thompson after getting married - after she was part of the squad which finished fifth in New Zealand in 2000.

"In the last World Cup, we didn't do ourselves justice so this is a second bite of the cherry," said the 23-year-old, who now lives in Louth.

England will go into the event full of confidence after claiming their first series win for 20 years over reigning World Cup champions New Zealand last summer.

Though Brindle only featured in the final match of that series, she made 34 not out, and also made 123 for the A team against New Zealand.

The World Cup promises to be a gruelling schedule with seven games in 13 days before the top four play off in the semi-finals.

Brindle now combines coaching with being a part-time ICT and design teacher, having graduated from Loughborough University.
