Silsden got their push for promotion from the North West Counties Division Two back on track with a comfortable victory at Castleton St Gabriels on Saturday - eased by a double from James Gill.
Gill scored two in ten second-half minutes after the groundwork for the victory was done before the break. That was despite Silsden losing winger Jamie Longley with a hamstring injury after just six minutes.
The Keighley-based outfit were already 1-0 up then, Longley's second-minute cross finding Jimmy Hedges, who side-footed in from six yards. In the 20th minute, Mark Bentham, who was making his first start for Silsden after a debut from the bench last week, provided the cross for Dale Hoyle to nod into an unguarded net.
Gill got the first of his double in the 52nd minute when a Michael Rosser through ball left him one-on-one with the home keeper.
Craig Dobie pulled one back for the home side before Bentham was in the thick of the action again. His through ball was right into the path of Gill and he drilled a shot into the far corner to complete the scoring.
"It seemed a straightforward win but the importance of it cannot be understated," said Silsden manager Andy Geary.
