In the National Conference Premier Division, West Bowling battled hard before going down 30-12 at Halifax rivals Siddal - a result that leaves them staring relegation in the face.

Bowling suffered any early setback when after 12 minutes Siddal opened the scoring through Gareth Hooson.

With the conversion successful and Bowling already on the back foot it was Siddal who seized the chance to go further ahead when, after some slick handling, loose forward Paul Phillips crashed over for a converted touchdown.

Bowling rallied and good handling from centre Tim Sutcliffe and winger Shaun Tordoff allowed scrum half Steve Illingworth to race in for a well deserved try, Peter Simpson adding the two points.

A mistake at the base of the scrum by the visitors ten minutes before half-time allowed Siddal stand-off Chris Harding to cross for a converted try.

A penalty from Simpson brought the score back to 18-8 at the break but Wests were dealt a killer blow at the start of the second half when Siddal scored straight from the restart, Harding racing in from 40 metres.

Bowling refused to buckle, and ten minutes from time, Simpson's kick through was collected by 18-year-old winger Adam Wright, who raced in for an unconverted score.

However Siddal had the final say when Hooson collected his second converted try to give Bowling's bitter rivals the points.

In the quarter-final of the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy, Bank Top Harriers secured a stunning 36-14 victory against Elland A.

Bank Top, lying some three divisions below Elland, showed the Halifax side no respect and played some flowing rugby resulting in a six-try demolition of the visitors.

Bob Brown, Scott Haley, Adam Gillard, Darren Brakewell and Dan Oldfield (2) crossed for Bank Top.

In the Pennine League Premier Division, Victoria Rangers remain anchored to the foot of the table after a 22-12 defeat at Westgate Redoubt.

Vics battled hard but were unable to turn around an 18-8 half-time deficit. Danny Dixon and Carl Williams touched down for Rangers.

In Division One, leaders Keighley Town returned to winning ways with a spirited

17-16 victory at Calder Valley.

Richard Shaw's last-minute drop goal completed Town's fightback after they trailed

16-10 midway through the second half.

West Bowling A collected two valuable points, emphatically beating Thornhill Trojans 34-3.

Bowling had centre Richard Young to thank for victory as he helped himself to four tries and the man-of-the-match award.

In Division Four, a last-gasp try gave Thornton a 32-30 victory at home to Drighlington A.

William Sharp (2), Kelvin Daulat (2), Lee Pemberton and James Fleming scored the tries with Sharp kicking four goals.

30-6. Paul Priestley proved unstoppable for the Bradford side with a hat-trick of tries.
