Thackley and Liversedge tasted sweet victories last night in the Northern Counties East Premier Division.

Thackley won 2-0 at home while Sedge earned a 3-1 win away.

Sedge were pegged back by Sheffield after Craig Farrand's 20th-minute opener. He curled a shot into the top corner from Andy Cygan's low cross just before the interval.

Midfielder Farrand restored the visitors' advantage in the 65th minute. He chested down a clearance from the Sheffield keeper and volleyed it into the unguarded net from just inside the home side's half.

With just five minutes remaining Sedge, who had former Avenue and Guiseley centre back James Stansfield in their starting line up, put the result beyond doubt. Striker Gareth Hamlet took a through ball from Danny Ryan and rounded the keeper to slot in. "It was a very good win against the championship favourites. We tried to play football, which was difficult on that pitch, and they couldn't match us," said delighted Sedge manager Eugene Lacy.

Thackley had enjoyed the better of the early stages against Glasshoughton Welfare but a handful of chances went begging before they broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute.

Simon Oliver planted a deep cross and Joel Etienne rose above defender Justin Wilkes to head home.

Thackley pressed their home advantage following Saturday's 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture but had to wait until the 75th minute to seal their win.

A Cory Larkin cross from the left caused concern in the Welfare defence and Lee Reilly knocked it down for Adam Johnson. He hit a shot from 12 yards that deflected in off Johnson, leaving the pair to argue over who claims the goal.
