Dewsbury Celtic 44 Cubs Under 14's 8 - Missing several key players the Cubs struggled to find their rhythm against a very efficient and well organised Celtic team. However they held their own in the first half going in to the break only eight points adrift thanks to some tremendous team tackling and a Chris Burton try. The home side started the second half very aggressively and further injuries cost the Cubs dear as they conceded 32 unanswered points. But even then they would not lie down and were rewarded for their perseverance when James Haythornthwaite fielded his own grubber kick to score the final try of the match. New boy James Corbett showed promise on his first outing for the club.

Elland 24

After the previous week's heroics the cubs came down to earth with a bump losing to four unanswered tries, against an Elland team eager for revenge.

It was not all one way traffic though, man of the match Martyn Broadley leading the way with some strong tackling from marker aided and abetted by Josh Lynam. Good ground was also made by the nippy Joe Palmer and Josh Ives from acting half who prodded and probed the Elland defence to no avail.

Prop Jake Dunn also made solid yardage when called upon. The two first half tries for Elland were run away tries where a missed tackle after dogged defence let the visitors in. The Cubs came closest to scoring after an interception by Jamie Pickles and a 60 metre dash to the line was just halted 10 yards short.

The Cubs started strongly in the second half, passing more and running better angles. A bomb by Ben Stead tested the defence, but the grounding of the ball was judged to have resulted in a knock on. A try for the Cubs at this time might have been the catalyst for a revival. Unfortunately this was not to be, and both defences held firm until late into the match when two quick tries by Elland completed the scoring.

Cubs Under 11's

Royds

The cubs produced an excellent all round performance to narrowly beat Royds in a very strong and competitive game. William Doveston earned himself the Coach's Award for his first half hat trick.

Man of the match Jamie Stephenson, stole the lime light, not only by notching up his own hat-trick, but also leading the Cubs' defence with his tenacious tackling.

Other try scorers were Harry Page and Anthony Garnett, who received the Most Improved Player award.

Wibsey Under-10s

Cougar Cubs

This was the first game against a Bradford team in two years and an under-strength Cubs were beaten by a well organised Wibsey attack. The Cubs were hit by a shortage of players due to the Easter Holiday and were just not up for it.

The game demonstrated what happens when you don't tackle as a team; Jack Winterburn (top tackler) was the only player to reach double figures. Louis Hannan, Sam Ward and Joe Buffey should be singled out for their effort in support tackling.

Adam Robinson was awarded the Man of the Match for his strong running and his support play. It was a hard running coupled with some neat passing between Adam Robinson and Jack Winterburn that led to Jack scoring the Cubs only try.

Cubs Under-9s faced one of their toughest games of the season when they met Siddal, despite scoring on their first attack.

They were then left shell-shocked as Siddal replied with four unanswered tries. A string of unforced errors let the Cubs back into the game and they were back in control at the break, but Siddall hit back again and edged in front in the last quarter. With time running out the Cubs regained the lead with two late tries and man of the match Rory Conway and top tackler Kyle Akrigg saved the day with a ferocious two-man tackle on their own line. Outstanding defence from Luke Moorby, Ben Dixon and Kyle Wilmot helped seal the result. Outstanding effor went to Taylor Scott. Try scorers were Akrigg (3), Connell (3), Moorby, Conway and Wilmot.

Cubs Under-8s

West Hull at Odsal

Only one try separated the two teams in an excellent game of Rugby and the kids enjoyed themselves in the atmosphere and hype. Both teams from the start put in strong hard tackles, for the cubs this was led by Top Tackler Connor Dunford and Man of the Match Jack Adams. Some excellent running form Joe Mash saw him get tantalisingly close to the Hull try line on three occasions, only to be gang tackled into touch. Callum Franklin was awarded the Most improved player for his support play and tackles he made during the game. The Cubs try came from Jack Adams, who ran the full length pitch to score, much to the delight of the Bradford fans at that end of the pitch.
