The Bulls may have slumped to their fifth loss in nine Super League matches this season but there was an unmistakable silver lining to the clouds that hovered above the team at Warrington.

The sight of Lesley Vainikolo collecting a Lee Briers kick close to his own line and out-sprinting the entire Wolves team over 90 metres to score between the posts would have made even the gloomiest Bulls fan's trip back over the Pennines just a little bit easier to bear.

After the match the Bulls' match-winner pronounced himself happy with his return following a two-week lay-off to rest a troublesome hamstring injury.

"It was good," said Vainikolo, who also barrelled over from close range to take his try tally for the season to five.

"I thought I'd come in and lift up the boys but we made it too hard for ourselves in the first half. At least in the second half we showed what we could do.

"We just need to stay positive. That should have been our game but we need to put it behind us and start concentrating on next week."

Vainikolo, who looked the fittest he has been since being pulled out of the Kiwi Tri-Nations squad to undergo knee surgery in November, confirmed he was almost fully fit.

"I am close to it. I always want to give 110 per cent even if I am not quite right but I am getting there slowly now. The hamstring wasn't too bad but my knee was playing up a little bit."

Mick Withers also came through his return match unscathed, much to the relief of coach Brian Noble.

"They are both good and once we get them up to speed we will be a better team for sure," said Noble.
