The parents of little Lily Cater, who is battling a rare killer heart condition, have been overwhelmed by offers of help since their baby's plight was highlighted in the T&A.

The tiny tot has a condition called pulmonary atresia and doctors say she will almost certainly die before her fifth birthday.

The couple said they had been inundated with offers of help and support following the report of their daughter's condition in Monday's T&A.

"It has been really inspiring, people have been phoning all day and asking what they can do to help," said Lily's mum Michala, of Low Moor, Bradford.

"An elderly woman phoned and told me she would like to donate some of her pension for Lily's appeal because Lily's big blue eyes had won her over and that was very touching.

"Another woman phoned and said her son was also born with pulmonary atresia," said Michala. "That was really comforting because now we have someone we can share our experiences with."

The couple have also been offered a free DJ service for any events they organise.

"One group of Christians even called to offer us their prayers," said Michala. "It has made us sure that setting up the trust was the right thing to do."

Pulmonary atresia, in which the heart and main blood vessel to the lungs fail to develop in the womb, affects just two babies a year born in Britain.

Doctors have said they cannot cure Lily's condition and have said she will die of heart and lung failure before her fifth birthday.

Lily could die at any time and her family have begun a desperate race against time to find a cure for her, setting up the Lily Cater Cardiac Trust.

"The response to the article has given us fresh hope that we may be able to fly Lily anywhere in the world in search of a cure," said Lily's dad Paul.

"It means we will know we have done everything we can to save Lily and give her the best quality of life possible."

The couple said they will be organising lots of fundraising events over the coming year.

"We want to get as many people involved as possible," said Michala.

She said Lily's two brothers Kane, eight, and Jordan, ten, and her sister Megan, six, would all be joining in.

"It is going to be a real family effort," said Michala.
