A budding Bradford DJ is to share the stage with international artists at a star-studded music festival.

Manessa Faal, of Drub Lane, Cleckheaton, is to showcase her singing and DJ talents alongside superstars such as Will Smith and Craig David at this year's Urban Music Festival.

The 19-year-old was selected for the bonanza during the Prince's Trust Urban Sound Live course in April, a six month scheme developing the musical skills and confidence of talented youngsters.

The past year has been a dream come true for Miss Faal who never thought she would be performing in front of thousands of people at such a prestigious event.

Music has always been passion for Miss Faal, who started singing at the age of five and dancing four years ago for Explosion, a community-based dance group in West Bowling.

The youngster, whose idols include Joss Stone and Aretha Franklin, approached the Princes' Trust last year after she struggled to make a break into the music world.

"I started applying for some funding to get some decks but I was turned away by lots of local companies.

"I got my first DJ lessons from Explosion teachers and then applied for the Princes' Trust scheme.

"They've taken over since then and it's been great. I got my first real taste of mixing on the course."

The ambitious teenager now wants to make a career in music and already plans to join her brother's garage/urban group, Deuce.

But her education will not take a back seat and she hopes to study Physiotherapy at university after completing college next year.

Miss Faal is now building up for the big day where she will join nine other youngsters from across the UK this Saturday at Earls Court.

The Trust has been impressed with her dedication and hard work during the course.

A Prince's Trust spokesman said: "She was an excellent participant, getting involved in all aspects of the course and was also a great mentor to fellow participants, being very mature though one of the youngest members of the group and the only female DJ's."

Miss Faal is to feature in a Channel 4 documentary, to be aired at the end of April, following the group as they rehearse for their big performance.
