Bradfordians are to celebrate the country's cultural diversity by recording their experiences on their very own website.

Technophobes will join computer wizards in special workshops to create their own website composed of cultural practices, ideas, talents and experiences.

Bradford was one of only four cities across the country, along with London, Wolver-hampton and Bristol, to be selected for the national project Origination: Insite, which aims to challenge stereotypes and highlight the positive contribution of incoming cultures.

Bradford's National Museum of Photography, Film and Television has teamed up with Channel 4 and Culture Online, part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, to hold free two-day workshops.

People of varying technical ability will be taught about website design, structure and content in order to construct their own sites, which could include subjects ranging from rap as poetry to the rise of the Asian GP.

They will get the opportunity to develop their sites over the next two years, with help from the project co-ordinators.

Maud Hand, workshop project manager, said: "There are a lot of gaps in the history of our cultural heritage. A lot of people's experiences don't get reflected through the mainstream avenue. We are giving people the autonomy and control themselves."

She added: "We chose Bradford because it is a melting pot of cultures with people from every walk of life here."

Heather Rabbatts, managing director of Channel 4, said: "The positive contributions of incoming cultures to contemporary Britain is one of the patchiest areas of British history.

"We are delighted to be working with the NMPFT to help capture the diversity of modern Britain and enable people across the country to tell their stories."

A range of resources will be on hand at the museum during workshop sessions, including the Daily Herald archive featuring images of post-war immigration. These were collated to illustrate the impact of immigration

The workshops will run on May 25 and 26, July 6 and 7 and July 14 and 15 and can be booked on the website www.channel4.com/insite or by calling 0207 306 6922.
