The "Second Summer of Love" of 1989 will be recalled next Saturday when a new music night begins at Victoria Hotel.

Four local thirtysomethings are organising Love Spreads -- hopefully a monthly event -- to play the music they grew up with.

The records will range from the 1970s to 1990s, from the Clash through the Cure, Smiths, Stone Roses and Britpop to modern-day guitar bands.

"You won't hear chart music, and there won't be any dance music, just guitars, drums and bass," said organiser Chris Ward.

He and wife Jill Morris have teamed up with Skeletal Family members Martin Henderson and Clare Bannister to host the event.

Martin, a veteran of the Los Angeles club scene, will be DJ during the April 23 night from 8pm-midnight. Entry is £3.

n Johnny and the Poorboys plan to release a new CD of their Celtic rock 'n' roll this summer.

The disc will feature studio tracks as well as live songs from various gigs around the country.

Meanwhile the band will distribute its latest "vulgar, rude but dead funny" free magazine at gigs.

The Poorboys play at the Three Horse Shoes, Otley, tomorrow and the Snooty Fox, Oakworth, on April 29.

The band was well received when it recently played in front of 12,000 people before a Bradford Bulls home game.

"It was a bit like The Beatles playing the Shea Stadium," said singer Johnny.

n Sean Webster's guitar playing is said to be influenced by the likes of Albert Collins, Eric Clapton and Dave Gilmour.

Meanwhile his vocal style has been compared to Joe Cocker, Bryan Adams and Jonny Lang.

Lucky ticketholders will be able to check out the claims next Friday as the Sean Webster Band headlines at the Spectrum Blues Club.

The third concert at the Keighley club, to be so held in St Anne's Social Centre next Friday, sold out several weeks ago.

The audience will hear contemporary blues rock including songs from the band's critically acclaimed 2004 debut album Long Time Coming.

The next Spectrum concert is on June 17 with acoustic blues duo Emily Druce and Steve Jones. Booking opens on April 23 -- phone 07974 241801.

n Susskind, Everyday Formula, Brand New Analogues, Breene and Wet Paint have been lined up for this year's Keighley Gala.

Music promoter Michael Thompson, who is arranging the concert, now wants the bands to confirm they can play.

He said there was room for at least one more act during the event on Sunday June 5 from 2.30-6pm.

Michael can be contacted on 07791 374035.

n Maddy Prior achieved fame in the 1970s by taking folk-rock band Steeleye Span into the charts.

Since then she has performed constantly either with the band, solo or with other projects such as The Carnival Band.

The folk singer can be seen on April 29 at King's Hall, Ilkley. Book on 01943 602319.

n Black Sabbath's former lead singer Tony Martin heads the line-up as heavy rock tribute show Whole Lotta Metal returns to Bradford.

Hits by Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Whitesnake, Iron Maiden and Guns n Roses are performed tomorrow at 7.30pm at St George's Hall. Phone 01274 432000.

n Operatorsix will play the New Variety Club, Keighley, on the April 28 to raise money for the Victim Support Scheme.

The concert will raise cash to help volunteers who support people affected by crime in Keighley and Bradford.
