Riddlesden man Ian Hewitt is again treading the boards with Leeds theatre group LAOS, this time in Jesus Christ Superstar.

But this year he's in a different place as the society -- whose shows rival professional productions -- moves to the West Yorkshire Playhouse.

The company will then become the first amateur society to stage its work at the venue.

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's dramatic musical, portraying the final seven days of Jesus's life, runs from Tuesday to Saturday at 7.30pm.

The cast also includes experienced performers from towns such as Cleckheaton, Horsforth, Pontefract, Guiseley and Alwoodley.

Book at Keighley Information Centre in the town hall or phone 0113 213 7700.

n A play about a single, professional woman living in a city centre apartment block is staged at Bingley Arts Centre on April 16/17.

The Colour of Contradiction (pictured right), by Bradford playwright Amanda Collins, is in Bingley Little Theatre's Studio.

The one-woman play follows Joanne, happy but lonely, as she lives life on her terms. Tickets cost £4 on the door or by phoning 01274 589263.

n Keighley Vocal Union performs Haydn's celebrated Kettledrum Mass and Karl Jenkins's The Armed Man, both favourites on Classic FM, tomorrow at 7.30pm in Christchurch, Skipton. Phone 01274 561579 to check ticket availability.

n David Essex returns to Bradford Alhambra to take audiences back two decades from Monday to Saturday.

He plays St Peter in "hilarious and heart-warming" pop musical Boogie Nights 2 -- This Time It's the 80s.

Characters from the original 70s musical perform songs by the likes of Wham!, Human League, Madonna and the Bangles.

Book tickets at Keighley Information Centre in the town hall or phone 01274 432000.

n Anything Goes as Bingley Amateurs prepare to stage the frothy Cole Porter musical in November.

The society will hold an open evening next Wednesday at 7.30pm at its HQ for anyone interested in joining.

It will also run free adult theatre workshops running for six weeks from April 27 led by professional musicians, choreographers and directors.

The recruiting drive aims to add to the society's 100-plus members. Phone Tony on 01274 563864 for details.

The HQ is at the bottom of Ferncliffe Road, Bingley, next to the relief road junction.

n The Grand Duke, a rarely-performed Gilbert and Sullivan show, will be staged by Halifax G&S Society on November 1-5.

Anyone who wants to join the cast can audition for a principal role on May 1, or join chorus rehearsals any Friday.

Phone Kathryn Buxton on 01484 301291 for details.
