JUNIOR soccer stars from St Stephen's School took the honours in the finals of the Keighley Primary Schools Football League.

The Skipton school was invitd to join the competition to even up the numbers and turned in strong performances throughout.

In the finals St Stephen's and St Joseph's took an early advantage with wins over Our Lady of #Victories and Haworth respectively while Nessfield and St Anne's shared an exciting 0-0 draw.

St Josephs and St Anne's was the match of the second round with Anne's edging a 2-1 victory. The third round saw St Annes, St Stephen's and St Joseph's all win and end the round within a point of each other.

St Joseph's needed to beat St Stephen's to take the title, but a close fought game saw the Skipton side edge a 1-0 win.

With the teams so close St Anne's were able to finish runners-up by beating Our Lady of Victories by a two goal margin.

Medals were presented to all the teams and the winning team received their medals and trophies from Bradford City's Danny Forrest who told the young players that he began his career at the Marley School of Excellence.

Tournament organiser Andy Webster said: "The league has been a tremendous sucess. All the participants have shown great spsortsmanship and four students from upper schools have refereed the games, which has encouraged them to take their referee exams."

Now the organisers are hoping to find sponsors to support an extended compeititon next season.
