Keighley Ladies 2 Goole Town 0 - Yorkshire Shield (semi-final) KEIGHLEY Ladies reached the final of the Yorkshire Shield with a 2-0 victory over Goole Town.

The opened the scoring in the opening minutes of the match when a superb cross from Natasha Mulligan was met by Maria McArdle who drove the ball past the Goole keeper into the corner of the net.

Fine defensive work by the East Yorkshire club kept Keighley at bay for long periods, despite some heavy pressure.

After 34 minutes captain Michelle Harrison's corner found the head of Becky Granger who directed it powerfully into the net.

Goole stepped up the pace after the break, but their attacks were met by some quality defending from the Keighley side. The back four, Claire Priestley, Hannah Nichol, Sophie Taylor and Michelle Harrison were working well alongside keeper Claire Atkinson.

In midfield Shannon Foley, Becky Granger, Natasha Mulligan and Lisa Connolley dominated the game and created opportunities for their two team mates up front.

Fatima Khatum and Maria McArdle went close to extending the lead several times, but Goole also had their moments and threatened from an indirect free kick deep in the second period.

Substitute Isabel Moorhouse went close for Keighley, but her shot was tipped round the post.

Amy Phelan and Emma Ibbotson also came on to add pace to the Keighley attack in the closing minutes.

They were kept out by some superb work by the Goole keeper, but Keighley were happy to settle for the 2-0 win which puts the club into their first cup final.

The date and place of the final has yet to be decided.
