A Bradford sportswear manufacturer has won a contract to produce the merchandise for Trinidad and Tobago's football team during this summer's World Cup finals.

Samsan International has produced all the shirts, scarves and hats for supporters of the West Indies side, who will face England in Nuremberg during the tournament's group stages.

The family-run company landed the contract after the manufacturers of the side's official kit, Adidas, decided the Trinidadian market was too small to warrant making replica shirts itself.

Samsan heard through its contacts in the sportswear industry that the Trinidadian FA had decided to contract the business out and approached them with an offer.

The company used to manufacturing shirts for local sporting teams such as Dudley Hill Rugby Union Football Club. It is now dispatching thousands of shirts to sports fans.

The firm's managing director and founder, Shamshad Ali Chaudhry, said he was very proud millions of people watching the World Cup Finals around the globe would be able to see supporters wearing shirts and merchandise made in Bradford.

He said: "Football supporters all over the world will see these shirts that we have made in Bradford.

"It is absolutely great for us to land this kind of contract. Hopefully it will allow us to do similar things in Europe. The more business we get the more jobs we can create.

"We would like to see Bradford come back to its feet. A lot is being spent on the city. All of the work we out-source goes to other Bradford businesses and we try to keep everything in the area.

"However we do most of the work in-house, with all of the embroidery and screen printing done here."

The firm also has big plans to expand its worldwide customers by expanding its website significantly in the coming weeks.

The firm has been trading now for 20 years and employs ten people at its site at Globe Mills on Hall Lane, Bradford.

Trinidad and Tobago are ranked 49th in the world and will be England's second opponents in Germany.
