A private members’ club is opening its doors to the public for a beer festival to raise funds for repairs to its historic premises.

Baildon Hall Club, in Hallfield Drive, is struggling to afford to maintain its Grade II listed medieval building.

Club president Barbara Boyes said the chimney, believed to be 500 years old, was crumbling and repairs would cost thousands of pounds.

“The hall does take a lot of maintenance and we are trying to get money together,” she said.

“We can’t get any money from anybody apart from our own efforts because we are a private members’ club.

“It is a building full of history – it is the oldest building in Baildon and it is an asset to Baildon.”

The club is holding its spring beer festival from Friday, March 12, to Sunday, March 14.

There will be 12 Yorkshire beers, a pie and peas supper on Friday and food on sale on Saturday.

Admission is £2 plus £1 for glass hire, redeemable at the bar.
