A community programme has been given £450,000 to deliver projects to help young people in Bowling and Barkerend to unlock their talents and potential.

Inspired Neighbourhoods was one of 15 to bid successfully for a Government national £10 million pot.

Shabir Hussain, owner of Akbars restaurant in Leeds Road, Bradford, and chairman of the Inspired Community Partnership Board, said: “I am over the moon with the great news that our programme has been approved.”

Inspired Neighbourhoods has brought together businesses, councillors, colleges and the third sector around the area to help youngsters on the road to successes and transform their lives.

More than a dozen projects will be delivered over the next 15 months.

The programme will also support parents with projects providing career and training advice, financial and debt information as well as taster sessions in different careers.

Minister for Yorkshire, Rosie Winterton, said: “This funding goes to support a community-led project that will best uncover and foster young people’s talents.”
