One of the best known personalities in northern motorcycle trials sport, Brian Carter, passed away at his Guiseley home on Tuesday afternoon.

Brian (pictured left) was a member of the Yeadon-Guiseley Motor Club for almost four decades in which time held positions of Senior and Junior Trials Secretary, Chairman and President.

With his forward thinking attitudes Brian handed over the positions to younger members following his belief of encouraging members to take over duties.

Up to the time of his death he was Yorkshire Centre Youth Trials Team Manager. In 2003 he held the position of President of the Yorkshire Centre ACU and he was a respected official nationally in the sport of motorcycle trials.

With Mike Hinch he purchased Dob Park Woods and Browns Wood to ensure that motorcycle sport had a permanent trials venue, not only for the Yeadon-Guiseley club but Ilkley Motor Club and Yorkshire Classic Motor Cycle Club.

The Club stage the national sidecar championship at Dob Park and in the area and recently staged the Chris Carter Memorial Trial, an event that bears the name of Brian's eldest son who lost his life in a car accident at Horsforth some years ago. Teenager Chris was a skilled competitor along with his younger brother Andrew.

The Carter family is steeped in biking. Margaret Carter, Brian's widow, is the Yorkshire Centre ACU Benevolent Fund Officer whose duties are raising money for the fund. Riders who suffer injuries, or are in financial difficulties, benefit from the monies donated or raised.

A funeral service will be held at Guiseley Parish Church on May 19 at 11.45 am followed by cremation. No flowers but donations to the MacMillan Nurses Fund would be appreciated
