CRAVEN League officials were left scratching their heads trying to remember whether this remarkable match at Valley Parade was the first time two teams from the same club had ever made it to the final.

In the end the Guiseley and Menston Hotshots A team deserved their victory but it was a close match and they were rather flattered by the scoreline.

Certainly the large crowd in the main stand went away feeling they had had their money's worth and lifted both teams with the excellent atmosphere they created.

The Bs started confidently and had the greater share of the possession in the opening minutes, especially in midfield. Mattie Turner had a great run and hit a low cross which Michael Lader the did well to smother.

As the game went on the As started to look more dangerous but the game remained tight with no quarter given by either side and some strong challenges going in.

The Bs' defence was composed with Adam Helbert doing a good job on the dangerous Adam Hill. Murphy also looked strong at the centre of the defence.

The A team's central midfield of Adam Jackson and Jake Young started to get more of the ball. The dangerous Josh Roberts put in a couple of crosses which flashed across goal.

The Bs 'keeper Baker was in excellent form with his speed off his line particularly impressive and his handling as assured as ever. At the other end the excellent A team defence kept things very tight and the Bs were allowed to create few chances.

The A team took the lead when another low Josh Roberts cross was swept goalwards and despite a brilliant point blank save from Baker there was no stopping the rebound, which was hammered in from six yards by Adam Hill.

Just before half-time Jake Young chipped a delicate shot over Baker which came back off the bar to be cleared by the ever alert Declan Little, whose overall performance earned him the Bs' Man-of-the-Match award.

The teams went in at half-time fairly evenly matched and with everything still to play for.

The A team started the second- half strongly and looked very dangerous for the first 15 minutes. Following the introduction of Oli Smith, the Bs' midfield of Morvaridi, Wilkins and Clark managed to work their way back into the game. Turner was released by through balls on a couple of occasions but could not find a way round the excellent Jack Whittle, who was probably the As' Man-of-the-Match.

The Bs pressed forward and managed to get into some dangerous positions from set pieces, including a corner which flashed across the six-yard box. As full-time approached, they threw everything into attack and as so often happens were left exposed. In injury time a lightning attack orchestrated by the excellent Jake Young saw Josh Roberts side-foot home from ten yards to seal victory. Another goal from Adam Hill seconds later left the game with a scoreline that did not really reflect the closeness between the teams.

Both sides can take pride from excellent performances and for the part they played in putting on a display that matched its magnificent surroundings.
