Last Sunday was the wettest first round in memory for the Airedale and Wharfedale Cricket League's Waddilove and Birtwhistle Cup ties. Many games were settled by bowl-outs, one by the toss of a coin and several by Duckworth-Lewis style reduced target run-chases.

Matches not started at all were re-arranged for May 15 but those that got underway had to come to a conclusion of some sort and the various methods were used to determine a result.

In the Waddilove Cup, Bolton Villas beat Guiseley on a bowl-out while Skipton employed the same method to defeat Otley, Follifoot to beat Olicanians and Bilton to beat Collingham.

Burley beat Woodhouse on a faster run-rate and this method was used by Green Lane to beat Collingham, Rawdon to beat Upper Wharfedale and Ilkley to beat Kirkstall Educational.

Thackley lost to Harden on the toss of a coin.

Games re-arranged to May 15 are: Beckwithshaw v Tong Park, Addingham v Steeton, Bardsey v Alwoodley, Horsforth v New Rover

Woodhouse made 119 for four in their 23 overs with an unbeaten 54 from opener M Robinson. Burley took up the challenge and hammered 124 for two in just 14 overs. There was some excellent cricket from Grant Costello (46no), Jamie Davey (31) and Ian Normington (27no).

Green Lane needed to beat Collingham's 28 off their first ten overs after Collingham had finished on 85 for two off 30 overs and then further reductions took place due to rain.

Barry McCormick (21no) and Jamie Pickering (11no) ensured Lane reached their target with 32 without loss off 3.1 overs.

Pool batted for 25 overs to make a superb 197 for four with their new overseas signing Simon Dart leading the way with a magnificent 88.

Mark McEneaney (44no) and David Singleton (37) gave excellent support. Australian Dart then completed a superb all round performance with a six for 18 return off five overs as Calverley fell for 122 in reply. He was well supported by Phil Dibb who took three for 30.

Bolton Villas won 2-0 on a bowl out against Guiseley after seeing their innings cut short at 154 for seven with S Shuttleworth making 64.

Mark Ross had bagged four for 21 for Guiseley but the Guiseley bowlers were unable to replicate this in the bowl out.

Harden had reached 28 for two with Thackley's R Lockwood taking 2-14 when play was stopped after 6.5 overs. Harden went through on the toss of a coin.,

Follifoot's bowlers certainly knew where the wickets were in their bowl out with Olicanians. They hit them four times to their opponents' twice after rain had stopped play with Olicanians on 70 for two after 23.4 overs.

Kirkstall made 134 for five in a reduced overs tie against Ilkley but due to further rain Ilkley had their target reduced to 94 and they achieved this with four wickets down with skipper Chris Quaife hammering four sixes.

North Leeds beat Knaresborough and Silsden lost to Hall Park.
