It soon became clear that premier division side queensbury were not going to have things thier own way aginst the home team from diviion one. Some fearsome Cubs tackling kept Bury at bay in the early stages. While in attack hard running from the forwards led by Burton and Ireland punched holes through the visitors defence gaining good position, the backs made full use of the wide Cougar park pitch. After drawing the cover defence to the right quick hands passing back to the left resulted in center Cawood scoring out wide seven minutes into the game. Queensbury responded soon after breaking from halfway to score under the posts

Cartledge put the Cubs back in front dancing through the defence for a try to far out for him to convert. At 8-6 at the interval this game could have gone either way but it was the Cubs who took control in the second half. Good cross field passing on the last tackle created enough space for winger Coulthread to score in the right hand corner. Sustained pressure resulted in winger Anderton crossing in the opposite corner soon after.

Next to score was man of the match Haythornthwaite with a fine solo effort breaking from midway to touch down under the sticks. Cawood crossed for his second taking the final pass off Walton. Cartledge again landing the conversion. With twelve minutes to go the Cubs were in no mood to let this slip and soaked up everything Queensbury threw at them.
