Keighley bowling stars Trevor Hargeaves and Colin Jeffrey belied their years to win the Skipton Spring Doubles at Whinfield.

They pulled off an exciting 21-18 victory over holders, the in-form Graham Lummax and 'Smokin' Steve Pickles. There was some exciting play all day at the final venue and earlier in the prelims at Sutton and Keighley. Losing semi-finalists were Joanne Ellis and Phillip Dowgill, Robbie Ellis and Andy Uttley.

Lummax was also a qualifier in the A Bairstow Classic Qualifier at Keighley Bowling Club along with Tony Riley (Bradford). The event continues tonight (Friday) at 7pm with the last of the prelims. The latest 'big break' prize went to Keith Coppen (Silsden), who still managed to lose his first match.

Due on tonight is the Yorkshire Champion Graem Wilson from Oldham who will lead a night full of stars including locals Bryan Harrison, David Scott, Stephen Brown, Peter Clarke, Jamie Cunningham and David Cadwallader. Tonight's sponsors are the organisers Keith and Carol Harrison and the final takes place on May 22.

The Skipton Vets made their usual shaky start in the Intger-District event against Brdford and had only three winners at Sutton, the home venue, with Alan Pennington, Neville 'The Devil' Lund and new Bob Scott taking the honours. Their next game is against Huddersfield on May 20.

The County season gets underway on Sunday apart from the Valley team who get a bye in the Federation's Division Four.

The once proud Yorkshire Parks ABA team have slumped to an all-time low in Division Two and only two local bowlers, Mick Walsh and Graham Lummax, are retained for Sunday's home game at Cross Roads. They action starts at 2pm.
