Steeton 1st XI continued their good start to the season with a resounding victory over Menston.

After the visitors had scored 54 the introduction of Neil Spragg turned the game. He had overseas player Hutton caught behind and ripped through the middle order to pick up five wickets at a cost of only 18 runs.

Steeton's overseas player Nick Carroll supported him at the other end picking up three wickets for 25 runs.

In reply Steeton wobbled at the start losing Alex Howarth and Neil Spragg cheaply. Solid contributions of 19 from Paul Spragg and a first 50 from Nick Carroll steadied the ship before John Akrigg with a quickfire 23 not out finished off the game. Steeton now lie in second place two points behind early pace-setters Horsforth.

Silsden 1st and 2nd teams went out of the cup competitions at the first hurdle, both teams losing to Hall Park.

Steeton 1st XI's first round cup match at Addingham was postponed until next week due to the weather.

Silsden battled back against the odds to beat Thackley.

They lost their first two wickets with just four runs on the board before Chris Meehan (31) and C Thornton (14) took the score past the 50 mark. Some hard hitting from Australian Darren Motschall (28) and a partnership of 85 between Lee Bilbrough (45 no) and David Jackson (38) saw Silsden finish on a very respectable 191-6.

Thackley had no answer to the pace of Motschall who took 2-25 in his 14 overs. Hugh Sugden took a match-turning catch while Andy Pullen and Matt Shuttleworth took three wickets each as Thackley fell well short of the target, finishing on 104 giving Silsden and 87-run victory.

Steeton 2nd XI picked up five points from a 'winning draw at Hodson Park. They scored 201 with new-recruit Julian Higginson (47) the top scorer.

David Atkinson smashed 39 runs from 34 deliveries and David Cook also joined the party with 32 runs from 31 deliveries.

In reply Burley lost a wicket from the first delivery and soon settled for a single point.

Steeton 2nd XI are now five points clear at the top of Division A.

Despite frequent rain breaks Steeton 2nd XI crushed Addingham to breeze through to the next round of the Birtwhistle Cup.

Addingham were dismissed for 32 with six of their batsmen failing to score.

In reply Steeton threw away two early wickets before they had reached three runs, but the experienced David Robinson (20 not out) and skipper Robert Wynn (8 not out) saw Steeton home.
