Steeton reserves preserved their first division status with a vital win over relegation rivals Littletown.

With regular keeper Kevin Knappy injured they were forced to put left back Paul Wood in goal. Wood's first touch was to pick the ball out of the net as Littletown scored after 30 seconds.

However, as Steeton settled down they started to create chances with Aaron Hollingdrake and Anthony Fouldger both going close. It wasn't long before they equalised with Stewart Airdrie pouncing on a loose ball the level the game.

Airdrie then put the locals ahead as he latched onto a through ball before calmly rounding the keeper with a neat finish. With James Gill making a rare appearance at sweeper for the Summerhill Lane side Steeon's play had a new dimension with Gill's raking balls over the top causing havoc in the home defence and when Araon Hollingdrake struck a firm shot into the bottom corner it looked a case of how many the locals could score.

Steeton suffered a blow when Ben McCormack limped off injured at half time and they were forced to re shuffle. But Littletown came out for the second half revitalised and put Steeton under a bit of pressure and a flying save from Wood prevented them getting back into the game - however with twenty minutes remaining Chris Fothergill was adjudged to have fouled the Littletown striker and the referee award Littletown a penalty, which they calmly despatched.

This was the signal for Littletown to bombard the Steeton goal and only a goalline clearance from veteran Andy Lamb prevented an equaliser. With Matthew Dobson and Gareth Atkinson both having fine games at the back for Steeton Wood was relatively well protected.

Steeton should have wrapped the game up when Roy Mason fed Aaron Hollingdrake but he couldn't get in the strike required. Still Littletown refused to lie down and Chris Galdes responded to their airal bombardment. Steeton hung on and now look to build towards next season.

Wednesday night saw them go down to Lower Hopton 3-1. With survival safe Steeton ensured that some of the younger players such as Joe Knome where rewarded with 90 minutes and he didn't disappoint setting up Ashley Nettleton for the opener - however Steeton took their foot off the gas and conceded three goals all of which were down to lack of concentration rather than Lower Hopton's creation.

Even the introduction of Steve Narey up front failed to produce the spark required.

Steeton will look to re-build next season with the emphasis on bringing younger players on, and any promising young players are invited down for pre-season as the club looks to build for the future.
