A bouncy castle owner from Bradford is vowing to fight on despite complaints about his attraction causing too much noise and damaging its location.

Harry Mitchell, 70, of Bradford is facing the claims by members of Ilkley Parish Council that he is causing problems in the town's Riverside Gardens.

But Mr Mitchell said "There's nothing like that happening."

He said the generator he used for the bouncy castle had a silent engine and the grassed area covered by the castle may be flattened but said ruts were not 'churned up' as the Council claimed.

Riverside is owned by Bradford Council, which has a contact with Mr Mitchell allowing him to put up the bouncy castle on 28 days between April and September.

Mr Mitchell, who has brought the bouncy castle to Ilkley for the last ten years, said he had never received complaints before.

He said: "They're trying to get rid of me and I'm awake half the night trying to figure out who."

And Mr Mitchell, who has already been to Ilkley three times this year with the castle, says Bradford Council must see out the contract.

He visited the Riverside Gardens on May 2, the day of the Ilkley Carnival. On that day, he said, there were waves of people joining the queues for the attraction.

Mr Mitchell, from Holme Wood, said people come from all around to have a go on his bouncy castle and he has noticed that he is starting to get a second generation of customers, as the 'mothers who came as kids' are now bringing their own children. He said that the years, people have been appreciative of his service in providing the bouncy castle for children to enjoy

Mr Mitchell, who will turn 70 today, said he wants to keep on running the bouncy castle in the park.

Ilkley parish councillors this week criticised Mr Mitchell for not approaching them directly to discuss his difficulties in continuing to run the bouncy castle.

Councillors said they did not want to close him down, but would like him to quieten his generator.

A Bradford Council spokesman said: "The Council has received complaints about excessive use and noise associated with the bouncy castle and is seeking to ensure that the operator complies with the terms of this tenancy agreement."
