A young Bradford girl will become a familiar face on TV this Christmas after landing a part in a John Lewis advert.

Six-year-old Grace Kitching, of Queensbury, appears in the department store’s new commercial, which features children playing with gifts from the store, accompanied by a version of Guns N’ Roses hit Sweet Child O’Mine by Swedish folk band Taken By Trees.

Grace, who has attended drama school Stage 84 in Idle for two years, went to three auditions in Manchester before being filmed for the commercial at a studio in London.

Her mother Jo Kitching said: “All she wants to do is sing, dance and act. We were told last week that we had been chosen for the advert and we watched it when it was released on Sunday. We thought it was fantastic.

“She went to school the next day and people kept saying ‘I saw you on the television’.”

Grace, a pupil at Shibden Head Primary School, Queensbury, is no stranger to the stage and screen, having already starred as an extra in Emmerdale and in a safety video for airline First Choice. She has also landed a part in The Royal and performed in Stage 84’s Spectacular production at the Alhambra in September.

Grace shares the screen with six-year-old Elliah Jones, of Mirfield, who has been at Stage 84 for two years. A total of 200 children auditioned, but only 13 made it into the advert.

Stage 84 principal Valerie Jackson said: “I am delighted. I think it’s a lovely advert. They are both very talented girls.”
