A young Bradford barber is sharpening his skills on a new course dedicated to men’s hairdressing.

Jordan Varley, 17, who lives in Clayton and works at Marios in Bradford, said: “It’s unusual to find a course that just concentrates on men’s hair and that’s what I want to specialise in.

“I’ve been cutting hair since I left school and do my brother’s every week. My grand plan is to work abroad. You can take these skills anywhere”.

The one-year course in Halifax runs on Monday and Tuesday evenings and has attracted a range of students, from novices to experienced hairdressers.

Melanie Stott, tutor at the North Halifax Skills Centre at Calderdale College, said: “The days when barbering meant a short back and sides are long gone and we’ll be giving our students a thorough grounding in current hair trends.”
