Festive celebrations in Pudsey have got £2,000 to fund the town’s Christmas Lights switch-on on Friday, November 20.

The money was approved by councillors on the Leeds West (Outer) Area Committee.

As well as a mystery celebrity turning on the lights, the main car park in Pudsey will be coming alive to the sounds of a brass band while performers entertain the crowd.

There will also be a parade through the town and a fireworks display.

Pudsey Councillor Mick Coulson is urging people to get the date in their diaries for the event He said: “The annual Christmas lights switch-on is a fantastic event and always gets great support from local people.

“Obviously I can’t reveal our top-secret mystery celebrity – but what I can say is that this will be a fun-filled evening for the whole family.

“On a slightly more serious note, this event also plays a very important role in raising the profile of Pudsey. Our town has a lot of great things to shout about and an evening like this really helps get that message across.

“A lot of people are working hard towards the regeneration of Pudsey and this event will prove, yet again, why that hard work is really worthwhile.”

This will be the first year the event takes place in the main car park behind the leisure centre, instead of in the market place, because of work on the new bus station.
