The family who own this house in Old Langley Lane, Baildon, certainly like their luxuries; it has a spa bath with built-in television, a top-of-the-range kitchen and a dining room which had been turned into their own chill-out space.

“We really went to town because it was our first home,” says the owner, who has lived here with his wife and two children for the last four years.

“We lived with my parents just 30 seconds up the road, and when we were looking for a home we wanted to stay in the area. The location was the ‘wow’ factor for us, but then we did know the area well.”

Close to the village centre, this five bedroom house has been updated and modernised by the present owners to their own exacting standards.

“The whole house had a retro Sixties feel,” the owner says.

Everything was done before they moved in, with the owner project managing. “We had the whole house replastered and a new heating system put in, together with new wiring throughout and a modern alarm installed.

“The house has three bathrooms and we had each one refurbished with an exclusive Italian suite, then completely tiled.

“Downstairs, we put in new oak doors and carpets, and then decorated in a neutral style so that it’s easy enough to jazz up with soft furnishings and accessories.”

The major work the family carried out was installing a new kitchen, which is the owner’s favourite space.

“It has to be the kitchen, because we spent such a lot of money on it, putting in granite worktops and splashbacks, and all the integrated appliances you could ever need, including a microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and range style cooker.”

The interior of the house has a modern feel, with an entrance hall with oak floor, cloakroom and through lounge with contemporary marble and glass fireplace and ceiling cornice.

While the family use the dining room – which has French windows to the garden – as a chill out space, it would be easy to use it once again for meals.

Upstairs is an attractive galleried landing with an unusual feature – a set of French doors leading on to a balcony at the front of the house.

The owners had fitted wardrobes installed in each bedroom and the first bedroom/study has a bespoke work station.

“It was about a year before we moved in, but it was worth the wait,” the owner recalls. “When we move, I am going to miss the spa bath, which has a TV connected to satellite TV.”

The property has a large driveway with room for several vehicles. Because the house is on a corner plot, there are gardens on three sides, with a patio, mature trees and flower-edged borders. There is also an integral double garage with up-and-over doors.

“When we first saw the house, the garage had two small doors, so we took them out and put in ones we could actually use, as well as installing remote controlled lighting throughout the garden.

“I’m not a keen gardener – we actually have a gardener who comes in and keeps it tidy. It’s quite a large garden, but fortunately it’s low maintenance. The children have a tree house and a slide, so they spend a lot of time outside.

“I’m going to miss the area and our neighbours, who have been so friendly and welcoming. This is a lovely quiet area with wonderful schools, so it has been a great place to bring up the children.”
