Youngsters were shown how to build a Mongolian-style yurt at a youth centre in Bradford in preparation for a festival about global issues.
Young people at Buttershaw Youth Centre were shown how to put up the 12ft structure, part of their Duke of Edinburgh award.
Karen McKnight, manager of the centre, said it gave youngsters an idea of what the yurt could be used for as one of the central pieces of a festival in May.
She said: “It was all about inter-cultural learning and we are trying to get the youngsters to use the outside spaces at the centre more. It’s about having a better understanding of making basic foods, like bread and soup, so it also takes in healthy living.
“It taught them about sourcing foods – so we are trying to teach them about wider environmental and global issues.”
