The first part of a vast distribution warehouse in Bradford is due to be handed over to Marks & Spencer later this month.

Prologis, the world’s biggest supplier of distribution warehouses, is in the process of constructing a steel building that will provide more than one million square feet of industrial and office space.

The 90-acre site is bounded by the M606 motorway and Rooley Lane, on the former site of West Bowling Golf Course.

Over the next six months, the building will be handed over in four phases to Marks & Spencer, which aims to start operating its new distribution centre from the site in Spring, 2010.

Marks & Spencer said it was committed to investing in Bradford and said the new building would be the largest M&S distribution centre, serving all its stores across the UK.

The company said the recruitment process would start in a phased approach early next year, but said it was too early to say how many jobs would be created.
