A number of taxi ranks are to be relocated as part of changes to the road network being made to accommodate Bradford’s City Park.

It follows road and bus stop alterations around Centenary Square to allow the eventual closure of Channing Way next to City Hall.

In a report, Ian Bairstow, the Council’s strategic director of environment and neighbourhoods states: “Amendments to the surrounding city centre highway network are required prior to the closure of Channing Way.”

Following consultation with the Hackney Carriage Owners’ Association, a number of minor amendments were made and the location of new stands agreed. The police have also been consulted.

The existing ranks at Bank Street outside Argus Chambers and on Broadway would be removed. Another existing rank on Bank Street – this time outside Broadway House – would be extended to utilise the whole lay-by. A new rank would be provided on Bridge Street adjacent to Norfolk Gardens.

In addition a new out-of-hours rank would be provided on Bridge Street outside Lloyds Pharmacy.

The matter will be discussed at a meeting next Wednesday at City Hall from 10am.

Councillors will be asked to authorise Mr Bairstow to formally advertise the proposals in the Telegraph & Argus and to give consideration to any objections received.
