Your vote could help a community project win a slice of £250,000 of lottery money to make a dream become a reality.

Lister Primary School will be battling it out in this year’s People’s Millions TV contest to create the Lister Community Adventure Playground scheme.

It is in direct competition with a school project in Hull and organisers of the Bradford project are appealing to Bradford viewers to stand by their phones to cast their vote during the TV face-off in November.

It is the fifth annual competition run by ITV Yorkshire in which five groups picked from a shortlist of eight will be awarded up to £50,000 each from Big Lottery Fund good cause money.

And it will be you, the viewers who will decide where the funds go by taking part in a telephone vote.

Two schemes will go head to head and appeal to viewers each night between Monday, November 23 and Friday, November 27 on the channel’s regional evening news.

The Lister Community Adventure Playground would be created on a site next to the school near Lister’s Mill in Manningham.

It would also provide a safe play area for the nearby Margaret McMillan and St Cuthbert and the First Martyrs’ primary schools as well as the whole community.

It is envisaged that the playground would be used during organised activities for groups from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

The Lister project organisers will make their case to the TV audience on Thursday, November 26, trying to prove its worth ahead of its competitior, the Freddies Snoozle project which aims to create a white sensory room for people aged two to 19 with special needs.

At the end of the week, four projects will have won a slice of £250,000, with the best runner-up garnering the most phone votes also winning a grant as the final winner, announced on the Friday.

The chairman of Lister Primary’s board of governors, Councillor Dale Smith, urged people to get behind the bid, saying: “The school’s a magical oasis close to the heart of the city. It serves its community with extraordinary enthusiasm. It caters not only for its children but encourages its parents to attain and nurture themselves and their families.

“It’s got a sports hall that’s been promoted for community use and the extra dimension of a play area is a much needed facility. It’s very important that children learn to play at a very early stage in their development and it will expand their skills and learn to interact with others.

“I’m supporting this with much enthusiasm and I’m hoping it will be selected as the winning project.”

Telephone voting lines will open at 9am on the day the projects are due to appear on ITV and winners will be announced the following day.

Across the UK, £3.5 million will be awarded by the public through the People’s Millions.
