A social club must close down for two weeks and fit noise-limiting equipment before it can reopen.

It follows numerous complaints from a couple living near to The Cobbydale Social Club, Hayhills Road, Silsden.

Paul and Annabel Allan were concerned about loud music being played at the venue which is often audible inside their home.

They had already contacted Bradford Council’s environmental health department over the noise levels and a statutory notice was served on the premises.

But Mr Allan told the Council’s licensing panel today that the situation had not improved, despite a new owner and a new designated premises supervisor in Neil Cullen.

The couple applied to the Council for a review of the licence, which allows music and the sale of alcohol until 11pm Monday to Wednesday, midnight on Thursdays and Sundays and until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

They also complained about customers drinking outside after 8pm, which is banned under the terms of the licence, and doors and windows being opened so noise travels.

Mr Cullen told the panel he took over the club in the spring, but only became responsible for its day-to-day running a few weeks ago.

Since then he has replaced double-glazed windows, as well as door seals and closures, in an effort to stop noise escaping from the premises. He also said it did not have bands any more and he had employed a noise consultant to try and improve the situation.

Councillors suspended his licence for 14 days until noise limiters can be fitted and that when he reopens music should end at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
