Three have-a-go heroes who helped catch two teenage robbers have been rewarded by police for their actions.

Brothers Wajid and Junaid Khan, aged 22 and 14, of Idle Road, Swain House, Bradford, and friend Ali Akbar, 23, of Leeds Road, Barkerend, Bradford, were driving along Bradford Road, in Pudsey, in February this year when they saw the two teenage boys attacking a woman.

The 55-year-old had just got off a bus and was walking home when she was confronted by the pair who tried to snatch her handbag.

When she refused to let go they repeatedly punched her in the face.

The three went to the woman’s aid, alerted police and chased her attackers when they ran off.

They managed to catch one and kept hold of him until police arrived and arrested him.

The other teenager was later traced and arrested.

The three gave witness statements and the two 16-year-olds boys, of Pudsey, were convicted of robbery and placed under supervision orders by the court.

The trio were among others who had their quick- thinking and bravery officially recognised with Divisional Commander’s Certificates of Commen-dation, presented at North West Leeds Division’s awards evening at Heading-ley cricket ground.

Chief Superintendent Ian Whitehouse, Divisional Commander of North West Leeds, said: “I was tremendously proud to give the worthy recipients these well-deserved awards."
