A 20-year-old man has been locked up for smashing a bottle over a former classmate’s head at a party.

Kenneth Kidd struck out at Dale Cunliffe after a squabble over a crate of beer, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Kidd, of Carden Road, Tyersal, admitted unlawfully wounding Mr Cunliffe, also 20, last October.

Prosecutor Ewan McLach-lan said the men, who had been at middle school together, fell out at a party in Great Horton Road, Bradford.

Kidd butted Mr Cunliffe in a row over sharing out a crate of beer.

The men scrapped but shook hands afterwards, the court heard.

Mr McLachlan said that as Kidd left the party, he smashed a beer bottle over Mr Cunliffe’s head. He then ran off.

Mr Cunliffe was treated in hospital for cuts to his eyebrows, forehead and nose.

Jayne Beckett, for Kidd, said everyone involved was heavily in drink.

There had been fighting but that had stopped before the bottling.

Kidd had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and had no convictions for violence.

The attack was unpremeditated and committed in drink.

The judge, Recorder Bernard Gateshill, sentenced Kidd to 15 months’ detention in a Young Offender Institution.
