Striking Bradford postal workers were picketing the main mail centre in Bradford today as part of the national two-day walk-out as a local union official said they were ready to embrace changes to modernise the service.
Communications Union Bradford official Bob Hulme said today that the strike was solid among the 700 or so workers at the Royal Mail centre in the city.
Mr Hulme, CWU area delivery representative, said: “Our members in Bradford, Halifax and Huddersfield are keen to embrace new technology and working practices and realise that this will involve job losses. But we want the changes to be introduced on a negotiated basis and not imposed by Royal Mail.” The Royal Mail condemned the decision to go ahead with the “wholly unjustified” strikes and said it was willing to keep on talking, although officials warned there would now be delays to mail deliveries.
