Firefighters from Bradford tackled a kitchen fire in a flat at Tyersal today.

Smoke filled a kitchen and living room at the property in Sutton Crescent at 1am.

The fire happened after a grill was left on and the occupant fell asleep.

The flat had a smoke detector which went off in the kitchen but was not heard in the lounge because the door was shut.

"There should have been a detector in the other room as well but luckily the occupant woke up in time and everyone got out. The warning is not to cook when you're tired and never leave anything cooking if you could fall asleep," said Bradford crew manager Lee Miller.
