Police today stepped up patrols in Underclffe after a gun was believed to have been fired at a bus yesterday evening.

Police closed part of Harrogate Road, close to the junction with Killinghall Road, after a gunman was believed to have been hiding in bushes armed with a shotgun. A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said nobody was injured in the incident and an investigation had been launched.

The spokesman said the bus driver stopped the First bus, which was believed to have been carrying two passengers at the time, and flagged down a police car after the shot had been fired at about 7.26pm.

Police closed part of Harrogate Road while investigations were carried out, but re-opened it at about 8.50pm.

The spokesman said the side of the bus and one window had been damaged from the shot.

High visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area and detectives will be studying CCTV from the vehicle.

Witnesses, or anybody with any information about the incident, have been asked to contact Airedale and North Bradford CID on 0845 6060606.
