The family of Linda Tansley who was killed in a horror crash invited the vicar from her wedding day and children’s christening to lead her funeral service today.
The Reverend Stephen Treasure was asked to return to his former church of St Luke’s at Eccleshill.
He and more than 300 mourners gathered to pay their final respects to the 48-year-old. Mrs Tansley’s twins Jessica and Jonathan were there with their father Stephen.
A friend of Jessica’s read out a poignant tribute. All Things Bright and Beautiful was the first hymn to be sung followed by Make Me A Channel For Your Peace.
St Luke’s vicar the Reverend John Hartley said Mrs Tansley had been “well-liked and popular” in the community which had been struck by the tragedy.
Villagers joined family and friends saying a final farewell. The funeral was followed by cremation at Nab Wood.
Mrs Tansley of Pullan Drive, Eccleshill, and her friend Janet Herd, also 48 and of Eccleshill, were killed when their Ford Fiesta was in collision with a stolen Mercedes at about 11.15pm on Wednesday, August 26.
An inquest has opened and adjourned pending the completion of criminal proceedings.
